US WTA star Madison Keys surprised everyone by claiming her first grand slam win at the Australian Open tennis tournament. She played against WTA NO 1 Aryna Sabalenka at the Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne. Madison was ahead with a 6-3 lead in the first set, while Sabalenka fought back with 2-6 in the second.
The third set was the decider, where the two great tennis players battled for an hour. Finally, Madison Keys defeated Sabelenka in the third set by 7-5 and won her first Grand Slam. With this win, she reached her career high in WTA rankings by becoming the world no. 7. Nobody thought Madison would win the 2025 Australian Open, as many predicted Aryna Sabalenka would retain the title.
The American started her AO 2025 campaign with early-round wins against Ann, Li and Elena Gabriela Ruse. In the third round, Keys defeated fellow American Danielle Collins and then Elena Rybakina. In the quarterfinals, she won against Elina Svitolina.
She played the semi-final match against WTA No. 2 Iga Sviatek. The match was too much trilling. Despite losing the first set against the Polish player, Keys made her comeback by winning the next two sets by 6-1, 7-6 (10-8). She sealed her spot in the AO 25 finals since the 2017 US Open finals.
After defeating the Belarusian, Madison Keys became the only player after Serena Williams to win against the World No. 1 and World No. 2 in the Australian Open tournaments. Throughout the tournament, keys showed her mental toughness, rising for challenges, and outstanding skill display.
