Former Australian tennis star Rannae Stubbs has expressed strong concerns concerning the potential doping ban facing tennis sensation and world number one Jannik Sinner, stating that it might be "a terrible look for the sport." This audacious statement comes in light of WADA's appeal against the ITIA, which has earlier cleared Sinner of wrongdoing after he tested positive for the anabolic clostebol during Indian Wells 2024. The ITIA stated that Sinner was not at fault as he entered his system through contamination by his team member.

The 53-year-old criticised WADA's decision to appeal, suggesting that it undermines the integrity of the sport and reflects poorly on the sport. She further said that the timing of WADA's action, talking about the 23-year-old, has since won two Grand Slam titles while under scrutiny, making a ban seem particularly damaging to the sport's image.

You really think this is a good look? Rannae Stubbs

The former Aussie star has further emphasised that if the 2025 Australian Open champion were to be banned, it would not only tarnish his strong reputation but also cast a shadow over tennis as a whole, as he is a top-ranked player currently and one of the brightest stars.

“This WADA situation is such a joke; I mean, it’s such a joke. He has played two Grand Slams and won them. You think this is a good look, WADA? You really think this is a good look?. I guarantee you—look out—I think they are going to ban him. It’s going to be a terrible look for tennis. How can the ITIA say no fault for you, and then WADA decides months later: ‘You know what, That’s not quite satisfactory for us; we want him to pay for his team doing something stupid, but we are going to wait until April.’ Are you kidding me?” said Stubbs.
