The end of the Roland Garros also marks the end of the Clay season in tennis and it is now time for the players to switch to grass. This is why some players will be featuring in the ATP 250 tournaments on grass. This might not be one of the major tournaments, but will still give the players some practice before they play in the upcoming Wimbledon next month.

Though there have been players like Andy Murray and Naomi Osaka who are featured in some of these tournaments it turns out that Roland Garros runner-up Alexander Zverev has chosen to withdraw from this season completely.  This is slightly surprising since after a great Clay season when everyone thought Zverev would be playing the BOSS Open in Stuttgart this season, we thought that he would finally get his practice on clay considering his record in Wimbledon has not been that great as well.

Zverev gives his reasons

There is no doubt that this has been a great Clay season for Zverev where he has won an ATP 1000 title in Madrid and was the runner-up in the French Open this season. It would have also been interesting to see how he has improved on grass which is perhaps the only surface he has struggled on in his career. However, Zverev has given his reason for his withdrawal saying " I've played a lot of tennis in the last few weeks and reached the final in Paris, where I played five tough sets. I feel that my body is not ready to go from clay to grass now."

Through this statement, it is clear that the German sensation has chosen to take this step to make sure he is fit enough to play in the bigger tournaments coming up. We would still like to see him play on Grass especially being the highest-seeded player in the setup as well. It is still understandable why he took this step since he has been in a long Roland Garros tournament and played one of the toughest finals just a few days ago.
