There have been a lot of players in the WTA that have impressed us with some great performances at a young age already. Though some are still giving us consistent performances some players have fallen off the rankings drastically and are right now not one of the top-ranked players anymore. One of these players is Emma Raducanu, who was a top-10-ranked player and upcoming star at one time.
After her US Open title win in 2021, it has not been a great last few seasons for the talented Britisher, who is one of the youngest players to win a Grand Slam at the age of 18. Due to injury and several circumstances, Emma Raducanu is no longer in the top ranks anymore and has barely featured in any tournaments this season. However, the last game she played would give her some confidence going forward as she got her first win on Grass in the Nottingham Open against Ena Shibahara.
Raducanu fires at officials
Though this was a great win for Raducanu as she beat the Japanese Tennis player in two straight sets and managed to get her first win on Grass going forward in this tournament, there was a huge problem she had with the officials in the game. There was no Hawkeye technology in the tournament which also resulted in some tight calls not going her way at all. After the game, Raducanu fires back at the officials in the interview saying " I feel like I was playing two v one on the court it was insane, I would have used probably at least four challenges if we’d had them."
This was an issue that the player had throughout the match and she has chosen to fire back at them as she further added " I think a lot of the time they go both ways. Today I felt they were all against me but it just makes me feel better that I managed to beat her and the umpire as well." These statements prove that the need to improve the technology in officiating the game has to be looked into for the future of the game.
