Tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz has publicly expressed his disagreement with former star player Patrick Mouratoglou's statement that Jannik Sinner is currently not the best player in the world. After Sinner's recent win at the 2025 Australian Open in Melbourne Park, where he clinched his third Grand Slam title of his career after defeating world number two Alexander Zverev in the final showdown in Rod Laver Arena, Alcaraz stated that Sinner has been one of the best players.
Mouratoglou, a well-known tennis coach and former player, had earlier argued that while the world number one has been dominant, and he does not believe that the 23-year-old Italian sensation is above five-time Grand Slam winner Alcaraz in terms of overall capability. The former tennis player highlighted that the two players are exceptionally talented and have had closely contested matches but feels that the 21-year-old Alcaraz's riskier playing style leads to enforced errors as compared to Sinner's high-paced game.

Carlos Alcaraz shuts down the ongoing debate about who is better
In the same vein, Carlos Alcaraz refuted his claims, stating that the ongoing debate about who is better is understandable but ultimately subjective.
"Jannik has proven to be the best at the moment, it's crazy what he's doing. I understand that people argue about who is the best between us two, but for me and for the tennis players who play against him, Jannik is definitely the strongest. I don't agree with what Mouratoglou said. Jannik will have lost 4/5 matches in a year, he has no ups and downs. In every tournament he participates in he either reaches the final or lifts the trophy," Carlos Alcaraz said.
