Holger Rune's Tearful Tribute to Family After Indian Wells Final (Photograph: Twitter)
Tennis star Holger Rune suffered a straight sets defeat against eventual champion Jack Draper in the Indian Wells Masters 1000 final showdown. The Danish star seems in poor form on the court, falling in the straight sets. 6-2, 6-2 during his one-hour and nine-minute battle.
Notably, Rune defeated two-time finalist Daniil Medvedev in straight sets during the 2025 Indian Wells semi-finals before making it to the final game. He seemed to be in great form in the semis, knocking out the Russian, the formidable opponent in the ATP tours. The Danish star has earlier defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the pre-quarterfinals.

However, Rune could not capitalize on his winning momentum against Jack Draper. The 21-year-old star was seen making many unforced errors in his battle, allowing Draper to control his pace and gaining an advantage over his weakness, which made him suffer defeat.

After losing the game, Danish star Holger Rune took time and thanked the people who had supported him immensely to make it to the finals. The star player became emotional when he mentioned his family back home. Following this, the crowd was ecstatic and started cheering him.
“For me it’s been a great two weeks. It never feels nice to not be able to step over the final line. That’s life sometimes. I can only say thank you so much to all the people that have supported me this tournament. It’s been very very special. As a player this means everything. Thank you guys for supporting. I also want to say thanks to my family back home. They mean everything to me," Holger Rune said in his speech.
