Despite the 23-year-old's impressive wins on the courts, including his latest Australian Open 2025 victory and being ranked World No. 1, the 54-year-old believes that he does not consider the Italian sensation to be definitively above 21-year-old Alcaraz. Mouratoglou spoke about the competitive nature of their rivalry, noting that when the two players give it their best, the outcomes are unpredictable.

The tennis coach also pointed out that while the Italian star plays with great consistency and fewer errors, the Spaniard's high-risk playing style often leads to more unforced errors, which can make him appear less dominant as compared to the world number one in certain matches.

I think those two players—him and Carlos—are above everyone else: Patrick Mouratoglou

The former tennis player concluded that two players are currently among the elite in tennis and should not be compared when it comes to superiority but rather recognised for their individual strengths and contributions to tennis.

“Jannik Sinner is not above everyone. I don’t think he is above Carlos [Alcaraz]. I think when Carlos is at his best, it’s a real match, and I’m not sure who is going to win—nobody can say who’s going to win. All of their matches have been extremely close, extremely uncertain, and Carlos has won some big ones against him, so I wouldn’t say he is above. I think those two players—him and Carlos—are above everyone else. The asset of Carlos is that he has incredible power in his racket and also the ability to change rhythm. He goes at a certain pace and then accelerates like crazy,” he said.
