India's tennis star Rohan Bopanna and Aussie player Matthew Ebden lost in the semifinals of the French Open 2024 on June 6. The Italian team of Simone Boleli and Andrea Vavassori thrashed the Indo-Australian pair on Thursday, June 6, 5-7, 6-2, 2-6 at Court Simonne-Mathieu in an hour and fifty-eight minutes. Notably, Bopanna and Ebden defeated this same rival at the Rod Laver Arena in January during the Australian Open final to win the title, which made Boppana a huge star and allowed him to take the world number one spot.

However, Boleli and Vavassori took their revenge this time after defeating the India-Australian duo in the semi-final game. Meanwhile, the Italian duo will be facing the winner of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos' other semi-final match. However, Rohan Bopanna also lost in the mixed doubles of the opening round of the Roland Garros in Paris. The star player lost 2-6 to Vavassori and Liudmila Samsonova, who partnered up with Veronika Kudermetova.

World number four Rohan Bopanna will be gearing up for Wimbledon next

Meanwhile, world number four Rohan Bopanna will be gearing up for Wimbledon, which is set to start on July 6. Bopanna will compete in the Paris Olympics 2024 with N Sriram Balaji after the conclusion of Wimbledon. The legendary player had a stunning 2024 year till so far as he recently won the Australian Open in Melbourne back in January, which made him earn the top spot in men's doubles as well as the Padma Shri award owing to his clinical display in the marquee event.

AITA Secretary General Anil Dhupar said he does not have any objection to Bopanna playing with Balaji, ranked 84, at the Paris Olympics.

“Rohan has written to us that he wants to play with Balaji. Balaji is a good player. He played well in Pakistan also, rising to the occasion. He also did well on clay at the ongoing French Open. Balaji is a big server. If Rohan wants to play with him, we have no objection to that. In my personal opinion, we should give Rohan what he wants. At the end of the day, it’s his last shot at an Olympic medal, and if he feels that it is better to play with Balaji, he would be sure of the choice,” said Dhupar.
