The defending champion, Novak Djokovic, thrashed Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets to advance to the French Open 2024 third round for the 19th time in a row. Notably, the Serbian defeated the Spaniard by 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 in looking for a record 25th Grand Slam victory. In addition, he will now play either Italian 30th seed Lorenzo Musetti or Frenchman Gael Monfils in his third round.

Meanwhile, speaking about the stats here, over their five matches, Djokovic has defeated Musetti four times, and he has a 19-0 winning record against Monfils. However, the Italian gave the Serb a serious fear as he won the opening two sets before having to withdraw hurt in the final back at the 2021 French Open.

Novak Djokovic, however, accepted that he doesn't hold many impressive records at the French Open 2024 and has minimum expectations from him to reach the next round of the game. The 37-year-old player is hopeful of performing well in the next few games to make it to the finals of the Grand Slam.

"Same. I haven't had too many wins coming into Roland Garros. I had to lower my expectations. I always believe in myself and capabilities. I know what I'm capable of doing. I've done it many times in my career. Going far in a slam has always been the goal. The last 5 years more so than the first 15 years of my career. I look forward to what's coming up and hopefully I can deliver the goods today," Novak Djokovic said after the win.

The second and third set really went my way: Novak Djokovic

In addition, the Serbian-born star revealed his emotions and how he felt after being challenged in the first set. The great player made a great comeback in the second and third sets to win the game.

"I'm glad that I came through the opening [two] rounds in straight sets. Again at the beginning, in the first set, I was challenged. He was playing very well, aggressive from the start. It took me a little bit of time to start swinging through the ball a bit more loose. Crucial break to clinch the first set. After that, the second and third set really went my way," he added further.
