The fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina beat 14th-seeded Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-3 in Monday's fourth-round match to advance to the Roland Garros 2024 quarterfinals. In an hour and nine minutes at the Philippe-Chatrier, Rybakina dominated Svitolina, who made it to the last eight in Paris a year earlier. Rybakina defeated Svitolina for the second time on this tour, surpassing her best-ever performance on the Paris clay court.

The two players dropped a serve early, giving it a slow start. Rybakina lifted her game and easily won the opening set. Notably, the 19th-ranked Ukrainian showed symptoms of tiredness early in the second set and lacked accuracy the entire time, leaving the 29-year-old Svitolina no match for Rybakina again.

Rybakina has been in outstanding form in Paris. After advancing to the French Open via victory in the WTA 500 event in Stuttgart, where she upset Iga Swiatek in the semifinals, she advanced to the semifinals before falling to Aryna Sabalenka at the Madrid Open in 2024.

We work a lot and we’re always trying to adjust my technique: Elena Rybakina

The Russian-born star was ecstatic after placing herself in the quarterfinal game following her great win over Elina in the fourth round of the Roland Garros 2024, which took place in Rome. The 24-year-old star spoke about the tough times and the battles she had faced against Svitolina in her great career. In addition, the great player talks about her remarkable journey despite missing the Rome Masters 2024 last week.

"She is a great fighter. Always a difficult match against here. But, I am really happy to win against her, here. Really happy with the performance. Elina is a tough opponent. We’ve played a couple of times and she’s a great fighter, and I’ve had difficult matches against her. I’m really happy with the way I played and served today," Rybakina said in an on-court interview.

“We work a lot and we’re always trying to adjust [my] technique. On clay, it’s more complicated for me with the movements as I’m tall, but overall, we’re doing a good job, and I’m really proud of the way I’ve improved over the last few years,” she added.
