Sinner dominated the proceedings as he ended the match in Shanghai with 10 aces and no break points conceded. Moreover the World number two notched up 22 winners at the China National Tennis Center.

"We will try to improve and push as much as we can" said Sinner in his on-court interview following the final. "Let's see how the end of the season is going to look. I'm very happy to share this with all of you."

Sinner could snatch back top ranking

Tien came into the contest on the back of a second win of the year against former Grand Slam champion Daniil Medvedev. At 19-years and nine months, he had the chance to become the second-youngest  American tour champion since Andy Roddick in 2002. But the youngster was never really in the contest, despite some flashes of his rich talent.

Sinner may now have a chance to snatch back the top ranking in men's tenis before the season ends after Carlos Alcaraz pulled out of the Shanghai Masters because of an ankle injury. The Spanish world number one sustained the injury en route to his Japan Open 2025 triumph. Now, the Italian will be the top seed in Shanghai, which began this week.
