It is the last two days of the Barcelona Open and we are almost at the point of getting a new winner since all the players will be looking for their first Barcelona title. This has been a tournament full of surprises that we did not expect at all. It has been an interesting turn of events in the ATP tour this clay season where none of the top 5 ranked players have won a title. Even in the Barcelona Open, we have seen exciting turns of events like these.
The tournament was down to the last four and it was Monte Carlo finalist Casper Ruud who was up against young Argentine player Tomas Etcheverry. Ruud going into the tournament might be one of the favourites to win the tournament, but we cannot take anything away from the 24-year-old South American who has gone on to beat higher-seeded players to make his way to the semi-finals. The way the tournament has gone we clearly cannot expect a one-sided game considering it is a knockout as well.
Casper Ruud fixes a place in the finals
The first set saw the two players battle it out and it eventually came to a tiebreaker in the first set of the match. Eventually, it was the 6th-ranked Norwegian who finally took the first set and took control of the game. All Rudd needed to do was win the next set to make it to his second consecutive final. This is exactly what Ruud did and went on to win the second set convincingly to make it to another ATP final in the clay season.
The first set of the game seemed to have been going in the direction of another thrilling game, but in the end, it was another straight-set victory for Ruud. This is also the first time he has made it to a Barcelona Open final and this time he will want to make the most of it. He will be facing either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Dusan Lajovic in the final game. This has been a great start to the clay season for Ruud who will be playing his second final after the Monte Carlo Masters.
