Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev engaged in a lighthearted exchange during a group press conference at the 2024 ATP Finals, showcasing their camaraderie with playful banter. Zverev stood out with a humorous remark regarding their draw in the same group, adding a touch of mirth to the event.

As Alcaraz pursues his first ATP Finals title, Zverev is looking to secure his third title at this prestigious year-end championship. Both players will compete alongside Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev in the John Newcombe Group, all vying for the opportunity to advance to the semifinals.

Alcaraz-Zverev shared humorous comments in the interview

At a group press conference in Turin before their opening matches, Alexander Zverev shared that his primary goal at the beginning of each season is to qualify for the ATP Finals. His lighthearted approach was evident when he laughed after noticing Carlos Alcaraz chuckling alongside him.

"When you start the year, my biggest goal obviously is to just qualify for the ATP Finals," Zverev said.

"Can't be serious with that with this guy. Come on," Carlos Alcaraz responded.

When Alcaraz was asked about his pursuit of victory at the year-end championships, Zverev playfully lightened the mood by referencing Alcaraz's age, joking that the 21-year-old's career was just getting started.

"He's 21. His career is one year long," the German joked.

"Yeah, I really want to win this tournament one day. I always try to qualify here just to give myself the chance," Alcaraz said.

When asked about having Carlos Alcaraz in his group, Alexander Zverev expressed his thoughts with a touch of humour, saying that he would welcome the opportunity to compete against the Spaniard. He mentioned that facing Alcaraz can be a unique challenge and noted that the young player is still developing his performance on the biggest stages, such as the Grand Slam finals.

"Yeah, it's great. I prefer to have Carlos than anybody else, for sure. It's so easy to play against him. Especially in big matches, he's proven in Grand Slam finals he's not so good. He's never lost, no?" Zverev said.

Zverev recognizes Alcaraz's exceptional performance on major stages, especially after their intense five-set battle in this year's French Open final, which he narrowly lost. However, it's worth noting that their rivalry remains closely contested, with both players currently holding an equal head-to-head record of 5-5.
