Ben Shelton beats Frances Tiafoe to win 2nd ATP career title in Houston

Ben Shelton wins his first clay title after beating Frances Tiafoe in a tough match at the ATP Houston tour. Another big achievement for the 21-year-old youngster in his growing career so far.

One of the most iconic youngsters in the game is 21-year-old Ben Shelton. The youngster has been having a great couple of seasons so far. Shelton at a young age has already made it to 3 grand slam knockout games in 2023. What has made the youngster a potential leader in the game is his powerful serve and the ability to convert winners with both backhand and forehand shots? Shelton is a talent that has to be nurtured well and looking at his form right now, it looks like his coaches and managers are doing a great job so far.

Shelton wins first clay title at Houston

The clay season is where Shelton has struggled to get through the knockouts. The ATP Houston tournament was an opportunity that he needed to take advantage of. Even though he was up against a much more experienced player in Frances Tiafoe in the final. It wasn’t the easiest of matches, but Shelton got the better of his fellow countrymen in the match. The first set was very intense but it was Shelton who finally won it with a score of 7-5. The second set however saw Tiafoe coming back with his iconic aggressive style of play where Shelton was put under pressure losing the set 6-4. Many thought it would be a tough comeback for the youngster, but Shelton completely dominated the last and final set 6-3 and won his first-ever title on clay.

This has now helped Shelton move up the rankings and he now has an ATP ranking of 13. Shelton has achieved what many players his age can only dream of. This match did not only show the talent he possessed but also his composure. The way Shelton came back after losing the second set was incredible. Shelton is right now in the zone making it to grand slam knockouts and already winning two singles titles. There is a bright future ahead of him and we hope he can show the same consistency.
