Wimbledon is set to begin and there are already a lot of players who will be favourites to win the tournament and achieve Grand Slam glory. Though there are players who we are eager to see, there are also players whose participation seems unlikely going into the grass court season.

One of the players is former World number 1 and 3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray, who has also won the title twice in 2013 and 2016. Murray has been one of the most iconic players who has had some great matches and was considered the best player after the big three. The Great Britain player though has not been in the best of form, was still in the talks to play Wimbledon until his surprise retirement from the Queens Club Championship. This certainly created doubts for the participation of the great player going forward.

Murray withdraws from Wimbledon

Andy Murray was really not looking at his best in his Queens Club game against Jordan Thompson and there was further news that came to light that he would undergo a back surgery. This already made everyone question whether he will appear for Wimbledon this season and the questions were finally answered as he has officially withdrawn from the competition. This will be a hard pill to swallow for the fans as they wanted to see him in the tournament one last time before his retirement. This will be heartbreaking for both the player and the fans who were looking forward to seeing him play at Wimbledon this season.

This might not be the happiest moment for a lot of people, but all is not lost as Murray is also in the Great Britain team for the upcoming Paris Olympics this season. We will have to wait and watch whether he will be fit enough to play in the global event, but at least that will keep the hopes of all the fans alive. We will have to wait and watch if he will be up for another medal in Paris and still prove why he was among the best in the world in his prime.
