WATCH: Harmanpreet Singh scores his 200th international goal against South Korea in Asian Champions Trophy 2024

Harmanpreet Singh achieved a major milestone for India in the game against South Korea in the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy 2024 in Mongolia. The Indian captain became the third player from his country to score 200 or more goals at the international level. Apart from Sir Major Dhyan Chand and Balbir Singh Sr, Harmanpreet is the only other Indian to achieve this unique feat.

Harmanpreet Singh was brilliant in the match against South Korea. The star player converted two Penalty corners into goals. The first of them yielded him the 200th international goal. The Indian captain gave a fiery performance as both his goals helped India to beat South Korea 3-1. Araijeet Singh Hundal scored the other goal for India.

Harmanpreet gave a brilliant injection from the corner. Harman got the ball in his control. There was a great drag flick and the ball got deflected from the leg of the defender to hit the goalpost. It helped India to gain a lead of 2-0 in the 9th minute of the game. Just a minute before it, Araijeet scored the goal for India.

Harmanpreet Singh joins the elite list of Indian players

Harmanpreet celebrated the moment by signaling 'Two' indicating that it was his 200th international goal. He became the first Indian in the last 50 years to score over 200 goals. The only other Indian who did it played way before most of the readers were born. Sir Major Dhyan Chand still holds the record for the most goals among the Indians.

The legendary player holds the record for the most number of goals for a player at the highest level. His record of 570 goals is so ahead of the second-highest scorer, Balbir Singh Sr, who managed to score 246 goals for India in Hockey. Harmanpreet is currently third on the list.

Apart from the 9th-minute goal, the Indian captain scored yet another goal in the 43rd minute of the game. With that, he now has 201 international goals to his name. KD Singh and Dhanraj Pillai are 4th and 5th in the list of the highest goal scorers for India with a total of 175 and 170 goals to their name.
