Since Ricochet made his All Elite Wrestling debut at All In, AEW fans have been anticipating a certain match-up, and that match-up is against none other than Will Ospreay. Since Ricochet's debut, the two AEW stars have squared off a few times, but Ospreay made it a point last week to agitate Ricochet about building his victories up for a Title opportunity.
In response to Ospreay, Ricochet said on tonight's AEW Dynamite that he had gotten Ospreay to agree to a match for the International Championship, which would happen on Dynamite's next fifth anniversary.
Ricochet assured him that he didn't have to apologize and that he had given Ospreay's words some thought. He went on to win another match as a result, which allowed him to challenge for the title. Ricochet faced The Beast Mortos in an AEW Dynamite match on September 18, which was a memorable debut for both wrestlers. However, once Ricochet won, things behind the scenes took an exciting turn.
Ricochet and Will Ospreay squared off 14 times
Upon seeing Will Ospreay backstage, Ricochet did not take long to announce that he was willing to take on the International Champion. He said he had communicated with Tony Khan, who had arranged for them to face each other on October 2 during AEW Dynamite's 5th Anniversary show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Given the past experiences of the two contestants, that battle seems to be an exciting competition.
From 2013 to 2017, Ricochet and Will Ospreay squared off 14 times, but one NJPW Battle of the Super Juniors encounter sticks out above the others. In the wrestling world, many still hold that bout up as a standard, and only time will tell if they can duplicate its viral popularity.
