Young Indian para-athlete Navdeep Singh clinched the historic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympics in the men's javelin throw F41 event. Initially finishing with a silver, Navdeep's medal was upgraded to gold after Iran's Beit Sayah Sadegh, who had initially claimed the top spot, was disqualified.
Navdeep’s journey was nothing sort of extraordinary. The Indian athlete showcased an incredible comeback after a rough start, turning what could have been a setback into a golden moment of triumph. Notably, his opening attempt resulted in a foul, but he remained unfazed, ready to push harder.
In his second throw, he launched a brilliant effort, reaching a distance of 46.39 meters. This performance propelled him into second place, sparking hopes of a medal. However, Navdeep wasn’t satisfied with just a spot on the leaderboard; he was determined to make his mark at the top.

With his third attempt, Navdeep delivered a sensational throw of 47.32 meters, a personal best that catapulted him into the lead. The distance was so remarkable that it became the highlight of the event, putting him ahead of his competitors. Even though he later made a deliberate foul after a shorter attempt that didn’t reach the 45-meter mark, Navdeep remained in a strong position going into his final throws.
A disqualification that turned silver into gold!
But the competition wasn’t over yet. In the fifth round, Iran’s Sadegh Beit Sayah surpassed Navdeep with a 47.64-meter throw, setting a new Paralympic record. Navdeep’s penultimate attempt fell short at 46.05 meters, putting him in second place. Although it seemed like the silver medal would be his, fate had other plans.
