Yogeshwar Dutt Honours Winners at 19th edition of National Speed and Figure Skating Championship

Following a tough competition among 300 athletes representing 12 states and UTs of India, the winners of the 19th edition of the National Speed and Figure Skating Championship have been announced today.

Gurugram, August 18th, 2024: The last six days at ISKATE by Roseate have been packed with action, speed, skill and thrill. Following a tough competition among 300 athletes representing 12 states and UTs of India, the winners of the 19th edition of the National Speed and Figure Skating Championship have been announced today.  International Figure Skaters Priyam Tated and Tara Prasad were the winners of the Senior Category in Figure Skating. They completed the double by clinching the Gold Medal for Senior Category in Short Track Speed Skating.

Yogeshwar Dutt felicitated the winners with trophies, medals and certificates at a grand Closing Ceremony that was held today at ISKATE by Roseate in Gurugram. Other key dignitaries who were present on this occasion included Amitabh Sharma, President, the Ice Skating Association of India.

Mr. Amitabh Sharma, President, the Ice Skating Association of India, said, “We are honoured to present the XIX National Ice Skating Championship at ISKATE by Roseate. The Ice Skating Association of India is unwavering in its mission to promote winter sports nationwide. We continuously work to develop the skills of our athletes through year-round national training camps and competitions in figure skating and speed skating. This year’s event was promising and more extensive, and we are eager to advance the sport to unprecedented levels in the years to come.”

Congratulating the winners, Mr Karan Rai, Business Head, ISKATE, said, “It is both an honor and a privilege to host this esteemed event, a tradition we have proudly maintained since 2012. Over the years, we have witnessed remarkable growth, as this year we have over 300 participants —a clear sign of increasing enthusiasm for the sport. Our commitment to excellence is evident in our world-class facilities and comprehensive year-round training programs. In partnership with the Ice Skating Association of India, ISKATE provides crucial infrastructure and sponsorship to support our skaters. Our rink is one of the few venues in India offering training in ice skating throughout the year. To fully realise the potential of winter sports, we must advocate for, and develop additional infrastructure & amenities nationwide, inspiring future generations and enhancing training opportunities for all.”

Organised by the Ice Skating Association of India, the Championship was held in two disciplines – short track speed skating and figure skating, wherein the athletes were divided into categories in each discipline based on their age group.

Kapish Kaushik and Kyara Sachdev secures a win in Juvenile Category

In the National Figure Skating Championship, Kapish Kaushik and Kyara Sachdev were declared as the winners of the Juvenile Category, Aarush Tiwari and Tanishi Krishna won in the Novice A Category, Hiya Adalakha won a gold in the Intermediate Novice Category, Manjesh Tiwari and Harshita Rawtani won the first place in the Junior Category. 

The Championship witnessed the participation of athletes from Delhi, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
