Just like the 206 nations taking part, India is set to begin their medal hunt in the Paris Olympics 2024. Sharath Kamal and Tarundeep Rai will be taking to the field on the opening day of the summer’s biggest sporting event.

Ace Table Tennis player Sharath Kamal is set to take on Slovenian star Deni Kozul. Elsewhere Manika Batra will take on Anna Hursey of Great Britain in their opening round of matches.

The 15-day event is set to begin on Friday after the opening ceremony. Veteran Archer Tarundeep Rai is possibly taking part in his final Olympic games. The Ace archer will look to end on a high by helping India win a medal.

Sharath Kamal looking forward to making India proud

Ahead of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony Sharath Kamal spoke to the media and said, “Waiting for July 26 (Friday), when we'll be leading the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony in Paris (Olympics). It's been a moment that I've been dreaming and visualising about, for the last 3-4 months. I'm pretty excited that I'm going to live that moment and especially that I'm going to do that with PV Sindhu. So, it's a fantastic moment, I would say.”

Ace badminton star PV Sindhu said, “Yes, I'm very happy to be the flag bearer with our fellow Indian, Sharath Kamal. It's a proud moment for both of us and of course, it's a one-time opportunity for anyone to be a flag bearer and represent our country, and it's at the Olympics, standing there, right in the front, holding an Indian flag, it's a very proud moment for both of us and of course he's like a super senior to me. I've known him for a very, very long time, so it's always nice to be holding a flag with the fellow Indians."

PV Sindhu also said, “I am super proud to be here at the Olympic village. This will be my third Olympics, and really excited for the competition to begin. At the same time, I will be the flag bearer for the Indian contingent and I am super proud... I will be holding the bigger flag at the opening ceremony and I hope, with the same excitement, I do well in the competition and get a medal back to India."

Tarundeep Rai and Hockey star PR Sreejesh too are set to bid the summer games goodbye. Rai while during the chat with the media said, “For me, every Olympics is important. But this one is a little emotional for me. It’s going to be my last Olympics and my last tournament.”

Meanwhile, PR Sreejesh got emotional while putting out a statement which read “This is my last dance, in the life of a sportsperson, there will be a lot of scenarios where your mind says this will be enough and this is the time. The previous time when that thought came into my mind, the situation stopped me or some person came into my life and said this is not the right time. This time I thought, gearing up for my fourth Olympics, it’s the best platform for me to say goodbye because I believe this is the best place where you can say ‘I’m done’. Going back from a normal tournament is a bit normal for everyone but saying goodbye from the world’s best platform is something everyone may remember me for a lifetime.”
