Indian Archery team started its campaign in the Paris Olympics 2024. The men's and the women's teams qualified for the quarterfinals of their respective events and the mixed team is set to have their qualification match on the 2nd of August. The teams are showing a lot of promise to gain medals, which could be historic for the Indian contingent.
Archery has never produced a medal for India at the Olympics. The day started for the Indian team on a good note as the women's team qualified for the quarterfinals. The team of Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Deepika Kumari had a decent outing that led to India's qualification. While Ankita finished at the 11th spot, the duo of Kaur and Deepika finished in the 22nd and 23rd spots respectively.
It helped the Indian team to finish in the 4th spot. In the quarterfinals, India will be facing the challenge of either France or the Netherlands. Beating them wouldn't be a difficult task. But in the semifinal, India could face Korea, beating which is next to impossible. But the women's team can go for the Bronze medal and they're likely to face either China or Mexico.
Chances of the men's and the mixed teams
The men's team has better chances, given their performances in the qualification round. The team finished in the third spot and avoided facing Korea till the final. Dhiraj Bommadevara was the star of the show and finished in the 4th spot. Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav finished at the 14th and 39th spots respectively. Korea and France finished in 1st and 2nd spots respectively.
The men's team is set to face either Turkiye or Colombia in the quarterfinals. By beating them, India could potentially face France in the semifinal. India wasn't too far behind France in the qualification stage, meaning they could post a challenge. A win would mean a great deal for India, as they would confirm themselves at least a silver medal.
The mixed team will be facing Indonesia during the qualification stage. In the quarterfinals, their challenge would be either of Spain or China. It could be a tough challenge given the strength of the Chinese team. But if the Indian team manages to beat China, they could face either France or Korea in the semifinal. A gold or a silver medal seems unlikely in the event. However, India can go for the Bronze medal in the mixed-team event.
