Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni is reportedly considering resting Lionel Messi for the international friendly against Venezuela on Friday (October 10).

The eight-time Ballon d'or winner was in line to turn up for the World Cup holders against La Vinotino, but there are currently suggestions that the 38-year-old may not feature against the Red-Wine.

Moreover, Scaloni has mentioned that he will try and see new players against Venezuela and Puerto Rico. After the match against La Vinotino in Miami, Argentina will travel to Chicago for their second friendly of the October international break on Monday.

"We will try to see new players with these upcoming games, to see if they can get on board, as we say. We feel that every time there's a match with this jersey, whether it's an official competition or a friendly, it's something unique." Scaloni said while speaking to the media on Tuesday.

"For us, there are no friendlies, not for the players either, and they know that very well. They're in an important moment for what's ahead, and they know there's a lot at stake."

Moreover, Messi is also coming off the back of a busy schedule, having played seven full games for Inter Miami since the September international break.

"We will speak with Messi, the idea is not to risk anyone." the 47-year-old tactician said.

Argentina finished nine points clear at the top of CONMEBOL World Cup qualification standings, having recorded 12 wins, two draws and four defeats. Meanwhile, La Albiceleste are heading into the friendlies on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run.

L Martinez likely to partner Alvarez up front

Even if Messi is included in the squad for the upcming match he is not expected to earn a spot in the starting XI. Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is likely to partner in-form Atletico Madrid man Julian Alvarez up front.

Messi's Inter Miami teammate Rodrygo De Paul is likely to partner Alexis Mac Allister and Enzo Fernandez in the midfield, while 37-year-old Nicolas Otamendi is expected to marshal the back four.
