According to Talksport, Enzo Fernandez is about to avoid an FA ban due to his racist shouting. The Chelsea midfielder caused a stir when he recorded himself using a racist and insulting chant after Argentina defeated Colombia in the Copa America 2024 in July.

In the video that Fernandez posted on Instagram Live, he could be seen giggling while other Argentina players participated in the fun on the national team bus. Wesley Fofana, a teammate of the Blues, described the video as "uninhibited racism" in response, and the Frenchman was among several Blues players who removed him on social media.

In addition, it caused a diplomatic rift when Julio Garro, the undersecretary for sports in Argentina, resigned from his post after putting forth the suggestion that Lionel Messi apologise for the sake of the national team. After Chelsea opened an investigation into the situation, Fernandez promptly expressed regret for his actions.

FIFA also became involved at the same time as the French Football Federation complained to the body that oversees world football. However, it is known that the FA will not penalise Fernandez since they consider the racism case to be a FIFA problem.

Why did Rodrigo Bentancur get a suspension from the FA?

In contrast to Rodrigo Bentancur's FA complaint about remarks made about Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-min, Fernandez had been fighting for his country while the Spurs midfielder was not. Enzo might avoid a ban from Chelsea, but FIFA might still suspend him internationally. FIFA's legal representatives are awaiting word from CONMEBOL, the organisation that oversees football in South America, before making any decisions regarding sanctions.

During Chelsea's preseason tour of America, Fernandez reunited with the team and personally apologised to his teammates, which they accepted. Then, Enzo Maresca, the boss, declared that the internal issue was handled. Fernandez is leading Chelsea during each of their first three Premier League games in lieu of the absence of regular captain Reece James.
