'We were a different team' - Ruben Amorim backs Man United for developing stronger mindset against Liverpool

The Premier League's top two teams, Manchester United and Liverpool drew 2-2 in an exciting match at Anfield. This was a hard-fought match, even though the two teams were far apart in the league rankings. Liverpool quickly equalized through Cody Gakpo after Lisandro Martinez surprised Anfield by giving Manchester United an unexpected lead. A penalty kick from Mohamed Salah gave them the lead ten minutes later. Amad Diallo equalized with ten minutes remaining, however, as United rallied.

Although the Manchester United boss was happy with the level of effort his team showed at Anfield, he emphasized that their performance as a whole still needs work. Amorim witnessed a dramatic shift in his team's mindset a week after voicing concerns about the team's performance and the possibility of relegation. United scored their first goals at Anfield since 2018, tying Liverpool, who are still leading the league, with goals from Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo. The team displayed tenacity and resolve despite the difficult conditions of the game, and the departing United supporters left the stadium with hope for the outcome.

"Today I'm allowed to be the only guy upset with the team."  "But today we were a team. I want to see my team play so much better, but I think the most important thing to address today is the mentality. That is the key for everything. Today, we were a different team, not because of the system, not because of the technical aspect of the game, the tactical aspect of the game. We faced the competition in the way that we are supposed to face every day, training and match. It doesn't matter the place... we need to face every day like that," Amorim told reporters after the match.

There were mixed emotions following the draw, which moved United up to 13th place in the Premier League rankings. Even after moving up the table, United is still 13 points outside the top four and 11 points behind sixth-place Manchester City. But considering the team's fierce performance against the league leaders, the outcome felt like a minor win for the supporters. One of the game's most impressive players, United captain Bruno Fernandes, expressed his anger following the defeat.

Amorim acknowledged the inconsistent play that has hampered United's season and agreed with Bruno Fernandes. Amorin will look to improve the team's performance and encourage his team to keep up the hard work and mindset which will allow the team to give a tough fight with the best teams in the league as teams get ready for upcoming games.
