Oliveirense's match against rivals Felgueiras at home on Sunday was doomed from the start. Before a ball was even kicked, the Portuguese second-division team's problems started, and they lost 3-0 to remain dead last in the Segunda Liga. After intense rainstorms, the Estadio Carlos Osorio was so soggy that the grounds crew had to redo the white lines in certain spots on the field.
They had only a few minutes before kickoff to finish the task, so they were under time pressure. When the contents of their paint roller ran out, one employee devised a novel remedy. Upon his return from the field, he brought cartons of milk, which were then distributed to others to fit into the paint rolling machine. The game proceeded as planned, and remarkably, none of the white lines caused any problems.
Being at the bottom of the standings and in desperate need of a victory, it was a crucial match for the hosts. The goalkeeper's net and boundaries had to be redrawn in white because the Portuguese pitch was saturated from excessive rain. With just a few minutes left before kickoff, it was a busy day at work.
