WATCH: Lionel Messi's long range shot against Chile hits the post

Argentina faced off against Chile in the second game of the Copa America 2024. The La Albiceleste started the game amazingly with high press and keeping possession of the ball as well. The high-intensity game has always been exciting to watch. The crowd of 82,000 arrived at the MetLife Stadium. The game was played more in the Chilean half as the Reds could have much of the ball and relied much on counterattacks. 

Lionel Messi is currently the most-capped footballer in the history of the tournament and is yet to find his first goal in the tournament. He missed two golden opportunities in the game against Canada and was unlucky on the night as his long-range shot struck the bottom half of the post and went out. The Argentine playmaker celebrated his 37th birthday a couple of days back, has been good in the game, and tried creating chances for the side as well.

Messi looks for redemption 

The reigning Copa America champions have taken 13 shots so far in the first half of the game with three on target and that one pass to the goal has not been played yet. The second half will be more exciting with both sides looking for the opening goal of the game. This is the same stadium where the three-time world champions lost the final against a similar opponent back in 2016. 

The Inter Miami footballer has 54 goal contributions, including 26 goals and 28 assists, in the World Cups and Copa Americas. He began competing in the Copa at the age of 20 and has since gone on to win the title in 2021. He has been the leading goal scorer for the country and the whole of South America. This might also be his final tournament in the jersey of the three-time World Champions till the next time he turns 41 years old and he will look to defend the trophy on what might be his final tournament.
