Argentina World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is set to depart from his club Aston Villa following the conclusion of the season. The goalkeeper got emotional after the final whistle of his last home game for Aston Villa.
Aston Villa defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0. It was reported that the club was open to selling the veteran keeper once the season concluded.
Emiliano Martinez tears up after the final home game
After the match concluded on Friday night, Emiliano Martinez was observed wiping away his tears. He waved to the fans, marking what could possibly be his last appearance at Villa Park. His teary eyes made the fans in attendance emotional as well.
The team's manager, Unai Emery, didn't answer the question of whether the goalkeeper is going to stay or leave once the season ends. However, one can make up for the gestures of the player that he is probably going to find a new club soon.
"Now we are focused on the match we are playing, of course. It is the last match here, and I don’t know. We will see about the team, the players, but of course, they are responding on the field at the moment. They are responding and are focused on how we are preparing and playing each match." Unai said.
"For us it will be very important again, for everybody to be focused. And of course, then we will see about everything, how we are going to try to get better for the next season, when we come back." He added.
Much of Villa's dream run in this season's UEFA Champions League can be credited to Emiliano Martínez, who was outstanding in front of the goal. The team is competing for next season's UCL qualification and is currently tied on points with Chelsea. However, the Blues sit higher on account of a better goal difference.
Emiliano Martinez joined Villa in 2020 and has since made 180 appearances for the club across competitions. He may make his way into the Saudi Pro League if the club calls it quits on him.
