The UEFA Euro 2024 is just a month away, as national sides gear up to play against the best nation in Europe. The marquee UEFA tournament will be having a new rule as the hierarchy has announced that only captains at Euro 2024 will be able to approach referees to argue calls during matches, any other players on the pitch seen arguing with the officials might be receiving a yellow card.
There has been a problem with players against refereeing decisions all over the world. The change is another attempt by football's regulating organisations to restrain the players. Before the current season, English Premier League officials announced that they would crack down on such abuse of referees. As a result, match referees have issued additional yellow cards to players and coaches for their unusual actions on and off the field.
The focus of changing the rule is on punishing upset players, referee mistakes continue to have a big impact in crucial matches from all over the country. Previously Ukranian Football Association decided to use 'The Polygraphy Test' for the referees. The mistaken calls have not only been in the local leagues but also in other top tournaments. This includes two huge incorrect calls during a recent UEFA Champions League semifinal between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
We ask that all teams ensure their captain is the only player who speaks: Roberto Rosetti
Roberto Rosetti, UEFA’s managing director of refereeing, has claimed that dissent leaves a “bad for the image” of soccer. He explained in a recent statement, saying "In a bid to improve the status quo we at UEFA want referees to explain more of their decisions to all teams competing at the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 tournament."
"How will we do this? The idea is simple: we ask that all teams ensure their captain is the only player who speaks to the referee. We ask the captains to ensure their teammates do not encroach upon and surround the referee, allowing direct conversations to take place so that the decision be relayed in a timely and respectful manner." The competition will have the best referee to take control of the competition.
