Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of a long-awaited Harry Kane successor may be dependent on a brilliant piece of transfer sleight of hand. This is according to a former Tottenham Hotspur player affiliated with the club, who suggested Daniel Levy to recruit a star as a replacement for Harry Kane. Tottenham are also in need of goals, as Ange Postecoglou's side has recently struggled in front of goal and a lot of onus being shifted on veteran Heung-Min Son.

The former Tottenham Hotspur full-back claims his former club is considering using Djed Spence as a makeweight for a move to sign Albert Gudmundsson to the English Premier League.

The Genoa striker has apparently sparked interest from around Europe after a remarkable season in front of goal with the bottom-half Serie A club, scoring 14 goals in 32 league games.

Last week, Genoa president Alberto Zangrillo stated that his club would not stand in the way of Gudmunsson accepting a good offer for his services - and according to Hutton, Spurs believe a pounds-and-spence offer is appropriate.

Spence has been spending the second part of the current campaign at Genoa after an injury limited his opportunities during his previous loan stint at Leeds United.

What did the former Tottenham Hotspur defender say about Djed Spence?

The former Tottenham Hotspur defender said that, “It’s going to be down to the manager I would have thought. I think Ange Postecoglou will have a big say on it and how he sees Djed Spence’s future moving forward at the club. It’s been a difficult one for him, we’ve spoken about it many times and I do actually like him as a player.

Alan Hutton added, “I’m not sure [Spence] can play in that position as an attacking full-back going into the number 10 role but the manager will know for sure. If they’re looking for somebody else in a different position and they can use him to get that deal over the line, then I’m sure that’s something they’ll look at.”
