Another record-breaking summer transfer window for Premier League teams occurred in 2023. The 20 elite teams together spent almost £2 billion ($2.5 billion) on new players, exceeding the previous record-breaking amount from the year before.

Having the most costly transfers, meanwhile, does not ensure success, and the class of 2023 will be unlikely to be remembered as a classic year for newcomers. The current English Premier League season has seen some great signings produce a tremendous result for their teams.

Here are the top five best signings of the English Premier League 2023-2024:

5. Mohammed Kudus (Ajax to West Ham United)

Mohammed Kudus

Kudus was signed by West Ham later than expected this summer, and it required the Ghanaian some time to establish himself in David Moyes' starting lineup. At the end of September, he forced an own goal against FK TSC and scored one himself to spark a 3-1 comeback that gave his Hammers career a head start.

Ever since, he has solidified his status as a London Stadium fan favourite, thrilling spectators with his ingenious ball-carrying and flamboyant inventiveness. It will be tragic to lose him during the Africa Cup of Nations.

4. Micky Van de Ven (VFL Wolfsburg to Tottenham Hotspur)

Micky Van de Ven

This summer, Spurs outperformed Bayern Munich and Liverpool in acquiring Van van Ven. The Dutch centre-back has become an instant favourite in north London thanks to Postecoglou's ability to employ his famed high defensive line thanks to his agility.

Van van Ven pulled himself out of a sore hamstring versus Chelsea in November, following an incredible start to the season. Even though Postecoglou's team has improved recently, their lack of a defensive anchor initially caused them great anxiety, highlighting how important he is to the group.

3. Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton & Hove Albion to Liverpool)

Alexis Mac Allister

Despite frequently being used in uncharted territory—the number six role—Alexis Mac Allister has completely changed his game since moving from Brighton last summer. Despite not being accustomed to guarding the defence, the World Cup champion has adapted to his new role with ease.

Since his arrival, the 25-year-old has shown to be one of the league's top midfield players. Mac Allister, who developed an excellent relationship with Wataru Endo during the season, appears destined to be a major contributor to the Reds' championship push as Klopp attempts to win his second Premier League title with the Merseyside team.

2. Cole Palmer (Manchester City to Chelsea)

Cole Palmer

Palmer being the only Chelsea star on this list is a disheartening reflection on the club's summer transfer spending spree of £450 million. Ironically, when he finally completed a £42.5 million transfer from Manchester City, he was one of the signings who was met with the least amount of fanfare.

After that time, the 21-year-old has become among Mauricio Pochettino's key players, scoring crucial goals and dishing out multiple assists in the Premier League. His performance versus City in November, when he earned a point for his new team with a stoppage-time penalty, was a pivotal stage in his growth.

1. Declan Rice (West Ham United to Arsenal)

Declan Rice

In the centre of the Gunners' midfield, Rice has served as an all-action player who disrupts play, advances the ball, and keeps his team calm when in possession. He has even contributed a few crucial goals, including the thrilling winners against Luton and Manchester United as well as the crucial equaliser in their tie with Chelsea.

Although his £100 million ($125 million) price tag caused some people to scowl, Rice has already effectively silenced his sceptics. Arsenal's star summer addition will have played a major role if they finally win a Premier League trophy this May.
