According to reports, the Football Association held discussions with Thomas Tuchel's representatives, putting him in "pole position" to become the next manager of England.  Since Gareth Southgate resigned after the team lost to Spain during the Euro 2024 final, the FA has been in search of a new head coach.

Despite being the bookmakers' favorite for the position, Lee Carsley, who was appointed interim manager of the Three Lions for the Uefa Nations League season, is not being considered for the position permanently. This week, it was reported that the FA have not formally approached any of the top contenders, including Graham Potter, Jurgen Klopp, Eddie Howe, and Pep Guardiola of Manchester City.

According to Sky Sports, Tuchel is their "primary choice," suggesting that they have "accelerated their search" for Southgate's replacement this week. Guardiola is not now an "active candidate" to lead the England team, despite rumors that he was the FA's "dream long-term candidate" and had made an "initial enquiry" in July. Next summer, the Catalan's agreement with Manchester City expires.

According to the most recent source, "if negotiations progress well," former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Tuchel might be confirmed as the next manager shortly. However, the conditions of his contract are yet to be agreed upon. Since Bayern Munich fired him at the end of the previous season, the German has remained unemployed.

Is Thomas Tuchel not going to Manchester United anymore?

Following the team's defeat to Greece last week, current interim England manager Lee Carsley expressed uncertainty about his future by stating that he will "hopefully" return to coaching the under-21s.

Erik ten Hag is under a lot of pressure following a dismal start to the new season, and Tuchel, who has been unemployed since departing Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023–24 season, has also been linked to a move to Manchester United. The German, nevertheless, appears to be gaining ground on the England national squad for the top position.
