Son Heung-min is set to become South Korea men's national team's most capped player when it welcomes Brazil for an international friendly on Friday. The Los Angeles FC striker is poised to make his 137th appearance for the Taegeuk Warriors in Seoul.
South Korea and Brazil have both qualified for the 2026 World Cup and the upcoming fixture acts as a build up to the quadrennial event. Selecao didn't have a great qualifying campaign, having finished fifth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualification table. Meanwhile the Taegeuk Warriors went unbeaten to top Group B in third round of the AFC World Cup qualifiers.
Son, who made his international debut back in December 2010, has 53 goals to his name. He is South Korea's second-highest goal-scorer of all time, only five scalps behind Chan Bum-Kun.
The 33-year-old spent ten years with Tottenham Hotspur before moving to Los Angeles FC in 2025. He scored 173 goals from 454 appearances for Spurs across all competitions. Moreover the South Korean lifted the UEFA Europa League title in 2024-25.
Son's scintillating form for LAFC
He has been in scintillating form for LAFC having scored eight goals and recorded three assists from nine apearances in the Major League Soccer so far. The Black and Gold are currently occupying third spot in the Western Conference standings, having collected 59 points from 32 games, just a solitary point adrift of leaders San Diego, who have played a game more.
South Korea are set to host Brazil and Paraguay in friendlies this month. Both the fixtures will be played at Seoul World Cup Stadium, with the second match scheduled for Tuesday (October 14). Meanwhile, Selecao will travel to Japan for their second friendly of the month on the same date.
