FC Barcelona after having a poor 2023/24 season, finished the season trophyless. The Blaugrane's management ahead of the next season has been in the media. They recently sacked their head coach Xavi from the club after just two full seasons with the club in his first full season he won La Liga with the club and under him 15 academy graduates were promoted to the senior team. Club President Joan Laporta officially confirmed that the former footballer has been sacked.
There was utter chaos in the club with the manager, as previously the 2010 World Cup winner, in January decided to leave the club at the end of the season and then the hierarchy held talks with the former coach in order to keep him furthermore some more seasons. But after a couple of weeks of speculations and talks the club sacked him. The 44-year-old manager was a legend for the club.
Xavi won La Liga eight times and four Champions League with the club during his playing days. As a manager, he won La Liga in 2022/23 and took the club to second place this season. Despite his legacy as a footballer and a manager, Barca treated him horribly. The fans were furious with the decision to sack the club legend and believed that he did not deserve the treatment he got.
FC Barcelona and mistreat of club legends continue
This is not the first instance that the club has done the same behaviour with their club legends, previously Ronald Koeman suffered a similar kind of act as Xavi. Barcelona's top-scoring defender of all time, the Dutchman won the Copa del Rey and finished third in La Liga but he was then sacked by the club. Then comes the greatest footballer for the club Lionel Messi who left the club in tears in the year 2021 as the management could not bear the payment of their best footballer.
Following the exclusion of Xavi, Sanchez Flores told reporters: “I shouldn’t say this… but how badly Barcelona treats its legends. What a bad streak. It’s probably a bad streak, but what a bad streak. What a bad streak. "With Koeman, with Messi, with Xavi now, how bad. I wish clubs treated their legends well, fantastically well. That would be fantastic. That is a legacy of connection from the managers to the fans. This connects a lot. Treating legends well."
Former FC Bayern Munich, Hansi Flick has been appointed as the new coach for the Catalonian club. Under him, the Bavarians won the sextuple and played an attacking brand of football with high pressing and quick passing, which created havoc for the opposing clubs.
