Rasmus Hojlund scored two goals against Bodo/Glimt during the UEFA Europa League, but Ruben Amorim wants more from him. On Thursday night, Manchester United defeated Norwegian opponents 3-2 at Old Trafford to claim their second victory in Europe this season. After taking the lead just 58 minutes into the match, the Reds easily won.
Similar to how he converted his first Premier League goal versus Aston Villa over a year ago, Hojlund controlled and scored his first goal. After giving up their early advantage, the goal made sure United was even at halftime.
Then, he would make a close-range conversion to put United back ahead. He now has eight goals in nine European appearances for the Reds, and he might start Sunday's Premier League match against Everton.
When talking about Hojlund's man-of-the-match performance in his post-match interview, Amorim refrained from getting ahead of himself. Before he solidifies his position as our primary center forward, the attacker still has a lot of work to do.
Ruben Amorim spoke to the media as he said, “I think he needs to improve the connection, I think he has to improve more because sometimes he gives too many touches when he holds the ball. But he is very important for us because, when we are in the low block, he is the guy to hold the ball and connect for transitions. He did that very well [against Bodo/Glimt].”
“He did a great job today” : Ruben Amorim on Rasmus Hojlund
The former Sporting Lisbon head coach added that, “He has those characteristics. He was aggressive in the goals, he was aggressive in the box. And he is a quality player. I think he scores the most difficult goals so he has a lot to improve. But he did a great job today.”
Fans are still adjusting to Amorim's football style and lifting the bar. He has every right to expect more from his players, and there is cause for optimism that Hojlund will now be more self-assured going ahead.
