Former Wolfsburg chairman Francisco Garcia Sanz is now a vital addition to Real Madrid’s board, marking one of three new appointments following President Florentino Perez’s re-election.

Advertisment

Florentino Perez has been re-elected as Madrid president for a fifth consecutive term after running unopposed, cementing his leadership.

The club has announced the appointments of three new board members, who will serve until 2029. They include Garcia Sanz, Manuel Redondo Sierra, and Jose Angel Sanchez.

Florentino Perez was re-appointed without competition

According to Real Madrid’s bylaws, the absence of opposing candidates streamlined the process, leading to an automatic confirmation of his reappointment as president.

The club declared his continued presidency in a statement on Sunday, referencing Article 40, Section E, Point 2 of the club's statutes, which mandates automatic re-election when no alternative candidacies are present.

"Having been only one candidacy proclaimed by this Electoral Board and in accordance with article 40, section E, point 2 of the current Social Statutes of the Club, Mr. Florentino Perez Rodriguez is hereby proclaimed president of Real Madrid.” read Real Madrid's official statement.

New Board members on the line

Garcia Sanz brings extensive experience to the board, having served as the chairman of Wolfsburg from 2009 to 2018 and contributing to the Bundesliga club’s board since 2004.

Redondo Sierra and Angel Sanchez were already serving at Real Madrid as the director of the president’s office and general director, respectively, but they will now assume greater responsibilities within the club. Both have had ties to the organization since 2000.

Florentino Perez held the presidency of Real Madrid from 2000 to 2006 before returning to the position in 2009. The 77-year-old has run uncontested in elections since his return, successfully securing his role in 2013, 2017, 2021, and now in 2025.

Under Perez's leadership, Madrid has clinched seven Laliga titles and triumphed in the UEFA Champions League seven times.

Redondo Sierra and Angel Sanchez play crucial roles at the club, being the top two figures after Perez.

Their recent promotion to the board increases their official responsibilities while maintaining their existing executive positions, as confirmed by board sources.
