Antoine Semenyo's late double helped Bournemouth secure 3-1 win over Fulham at Vitality Stadium on Friday night. The victory propelled the Cherries to second spot in the English Premier League table, having collected 14 points from seven games, just a solitary point adrift of leaders Liverpool who will travel to Chelsea for their seventh round fixture on Saturday.
On a rain-lashed night in Boscombe, Fulham broke the deadlock twenty minutes from time when Ryan Sessegnon slotted home from Samuel Chukwueze's through ball. However, the home side levled the score eight minutes later courtesy of some brilliant individual play for Semenyo.
The Ghanian showed great footwork to dribble past Timothy Castagne, down the left flank, went to the byline and fired home from an acute angle. Substitute Justin Kluivert then unleashed a stunning right-footed long-ranger to put the home side ahead in the 84th-minute.
Semenyo then sealed all three points for his side with his second of the night six minutes into the injury time. Kluivert started a quick counter, released Ben Doak down the right channel and the 19-year-old squared it off for Semenyo to slot home from inside the area.
Semenyo's brilliant form
Spanish manager Andoni Iraola is doing a brilliant job with Bournemouth this season. The Cherries have not lost a game since the opening day defeat to Liverpool- and key to that has been Semenyo's form. The 25-year-old has been in stunning form, having recorded six goals and three assist from seven league games this season. He is only behind Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot.
As for Fulham, it was their third league defeat of the season. The Cottagers are currently sitting at the 11th spot in the English top flight standings, with eight points to their name from seven outings. Both sides are finished until after the international break. Bournemouth's next outings is away to Crystal Palace on 18 October, while Fulham play host to Arsenal on the same day.
