Manchester City faced off against Luton Town on Saturday. The hosts after having a thrilling 1st leg UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, made some changes in the squad. Ederson came back in goal after injury, Kyle Walker was available for the game. The home side started the same way they needed to, as Erling Haaland had the best chances of the game. The Norwegian striker missed a 1v1 and took a shot after a rebound and got deflected from Daiki Hashioka as the ball ended up in the back of the net.

They kept on piling the pressure and could have sealed the match in the first half but failed to convert the chances. Mateo Kovacic scored a brilliant 2nd goal of the match from near the box. Jeremy Doku was put down in the box earning a penalty which was converted by Erling Haaland. The former himself scored a brilliant goal from inside the box. With Gvardiol adding the fifth one with another banger just he scored against Real Madrid.

Here are the Match ratings:

Manchester City

Ederson-7

The Brazilian shot-stopper did not have much to save on his return to the side. As there was only one attempt from the visitors and he was tested once in the dying minutes of the game.

Manuel Akanji-7

The Swiss international did not have much of defending to do as the game was played on the other half and was not troubled by the forward line of Luton.

Rúben Dias-7.5

Dias was not tested or troubled by the Luton strikers as he was playing more of a flying defender and took some shots from outside the box as well.

Joško Gvardiol-7

Gvardiol was more in the attacking half than his defensive duties he tried from outside the box just as he did against Real Madrid. He did keep Carlton Morris silent when they broke on the counterattack. He scored the 5th goal almost the same as he did against Madrid.

Rico Lewis-7

Lewis was brilliant at right back as the 19-year-old was more involved in the attack with the amount of space and skills he has.

Mateo Kovacic-9

Kovacic had a controlled outing in the middle of the park, as the defensive midfielder was right on the task for scoring the 2nd goal of the game. He was all over the park and was the Player of the Match as well.

Matheus Nunes

Nunes was brilliant attackingly and controlled the midfield but the youngster's mistake helped Luton to put one back on the goal.

Julian Alvarez-8

Alvarez was sensational all the time he was there on the pitch and he was trying his best to put his name in the score sheet and had the chance of putting one in the goal.

Kevin De Bruyne-7.5

De Bruyne played a great part for City in the midfield. He controlled the attacking part of the home side creating some chances for the side.

Jeremy Doku-8.5

Doku was exceptional down the left wing as the Belgian earned the penalty for the side and scored the fourth goal as well. He had created problems for the right back Onyedinma.

Erling Haaland-6

Despite scoring from the penalty and being heavily involved in the first goal, he did not get many chances as his rough patch for the season continued.

Hashioka had a poor outing in the first half as the deadlock was broken after a shot from Erling Haaland got deflected and went it but he was later well-managed by the Norwegian.

Burke kept Haaland quiet inside the box as the forward did not get a single amount of space despite scoring from the spot the central defender did not allow an inch of space for him.
