Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea FC squared off in an attempt to improve their chances of European Football. Within twenty-five minutes, the hosts rightfully took the lead as Tottenham's woeful set-piece defence was exposed once more. Trevoh Chalobah punished Ange Postecoglou's team this time by hooking a header home towards the back post after going unmarked the entire way.

Eighteen minutes from time, Palmer's free kick bounced against the bar and found Nicolas Jackson, who nodded past a diving Guglielmo Vicario, rewarding the hosts for their discipline. It was a fantastic day for the Chelsea players at Stamford Bridge in the English Premier League.

Ratings of the game:

Chelsea

Djordje Petrovic - 7

Had nothing much to do for most of the game and was not teste much by the opposition in this encounter.

Marc Cucurella - 8

The left-back put up a strong defensive performance, effectively stopping Tottenham's frequent and steady flow of crosses.

Benoit Badiashile - 7

The Frenchman cleared a few good opportunities and handled the majority of what threw his way without any problems.

Trevor Chalobah - 9

Man of the match award was given to him and it was well deserved as he was great in defence and in attack.

Alfie Gilchrist - 6.5

The youngster was tasked at centre-back and performed incredibly well, especially considering he was starting in place of Thiago Silva.

Moises Caicedo - 7.5

The defensive midfielder completed a great deal of defensive effort and showed evasiveness when handling the ball, drawing several fouls.

Connor Gallagher  - 8

The captain was excellent in midfield and had a fantastic evening. With an incredible ball, he also assisted in setting up Chalobah's opening goal.

Mykhailo Mudryk - 5.5

The winger had some great flourishes into the opposition box but was unable to do much with the opportunities he got.

Cole Palmer - 6.5

There were some very impressive moments, but he wasn't always reliable with the final shot or pass. It was a great shame that his free kick missed.

Noni Madueke - 7

A very dynamic player in one-on-one situations, his dribbles creating a few respectable openings. defensively put in a lot of effort, but his positioning is still lacking.

Nicholas Jackson - 7.5

The striker was guilty of occasionally making bad decisions, but he took the best chance that came to him admirably. It also arrived at a very important time as he needed it more for his confidence.

Substitutions -

Casadei - 5

The youngster was brought on to bring some energy in the defence and midfield and he was able to seal the game for his side.

Josh Acheampong - N/A

Tauriainen  - N/A

Tottenham Hotspur -

Guglielmo Vicario - 6.5

Nobody can say that Vicario made any mistakes, but he also didn't have many opportunities to make saves. Again, looked a touch nervous in the early set pieces that the side conceded.

Pedro Porro - 5

Spurs absolutely needed Porro to assume the role up in the number 10 spots in Udogie's absence. Tonight, he made a couple excellent passes in behind, but overall, he was careless with the ball.

Cristian Romero - 6

The sole Tottenham player who attempts to play forward passes every time he receives the ball is a consistent player. However, missed a clear sitter that would have tied it 1-1.

Micky van de Ven - 4.5

The Dutch centre-back struggles more than Romero when the ball is at his feet. The fans would want to see him use his strength and agility to burst the lines more often as that usually leads to errors from the opposition.

Emerson Royal - 2.5

He looked clueless against Madueke and Palmer, particularly with his left foot. A section of the pitch that Tottenham needs to examine this summer.

Yves Bissouma - 3.5

He has hardly completed a whole match since the year began and has looked nowhere close to what he used to perform in the early months.

Pape Sarr - 3

The midfielder irritated Postecoglou by playing with his head dropped far too frequently, giving the ball back in risky situations, and failing to look to push the ball forward.

Brenan Johnson - 6

Had a few risky crosses into the box, although they were frequently a touch haphazard, and if he had raised his head, there were occasionally better alternatives on the cut-back. missed a fantastic opportunity to bring Spurs back into the game at the back post.

Dejan Kulusevski - 5

Tonight, lacked the essential skill on the ball and slowed down significantly when attempting to recover.

Heung-Min Son - 3.5

Son should have taken the game by storm tonight, facing the least experienced defender on the pitch, but he hardly attempted to get into the Chelsea box, much less the goal.

Richarlison - 4.5

The Brazilian striker was ineffective today and was not able to trouble the opposition keeper at all today.

Substitutions -

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg - 2.5

A fairly awful cameo full of mishandled passes, foolish fouls, and misguided choices.

Rodrigo Bentancur - 6.5

The second half saw Spurs exert more control, although Bentancur's contribution was essentially limited to bringing energy especially in light of his proven ability.

James Maddinson - 3

Had an opportunity to take the game by storm off the bench, but failed to do so. Certainly an improvement over what Spurs had to offer on the pitch, he was a good passer of the ball and didn't exactly burn the world on fire.

Bryan Gil - N/A

Giovanni Lo Celso - N/A
