Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a bold move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Destiny Udogie, with transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirming the Italian full-back is one of two major Serie A talents Pep Guardiola is keen to bring to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Despite the looming shadow of 130 Financial Fair Play charges, City maintain their innocence and remain optimistic that a forthcoming verdict will clear their name—allowing them to move forward with their plans to reshape the squad. After a turbulent season that has seen the reigning Premier League champions unexpectedly fighting for a Champions League spot, Guardiola is fully aware of the need for reinforcements.
Among the key areas targeted for upgrades are the full-back positions. With Kyle Walker expected to complete a permanent switch to AC Milan, Guardiola is intent on securing new options on both flanks.
Now, according to Romano, the club are intensifying efforts to bolster their defence with two new additions this summer. "The club is exploring alternative options on the market and sources tell us that one of the players appreciated internally at Manchester City is the Italian talent Destiny Udogie," Romano wrote for Givemesport.
"Udogie is highly-rated by people at Man City as he’s still very young, able to play on both wings and a physical player who has already proven himself in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur," he added.
Romano also notes that the 22-year-old—whose contract with Spurs runs until 2030 and has been labelled as ‘untouchable’ in the Italian press—is a key target for incoming City sporting director Hugo Viana.
He added, "Man City’s new director Hugo Viana appreciates Udogie and was already following the player since he was at Udinese, when Spurs decided to invest in him with a move driven by Fabio Paratici."
Manchester City are also eyeing Andrea Cambiaso
Udogie, however, isn’t the only name on City’s radar. Romano also confirms that the club is actively pursuing another full-back, this time from Juventus, who offers tactical flexibility across the defensive line.
Manchester City are also prepared to reignite their pursuit of Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso, after initial enquiries during the January transfer window failed to materialise. At the time, the club was put off by Juventus' steep valuation of the 25-year-old, who is known for his versatility on both sides of the backline.
According to Romano, City remain attentive to Cambiaso’s situation and understand that the player is open to the idea of a move. With a managerial change now in place at Juventus, a renewed approach from the Premier League champions could prompt a different response from the Turin-based club.
