Olivier Giroud, the star striker for France, has announced his retirement from international football. This news comes after France lost to Spain in the Euro 2024 semi-final. Spain outclassed France on the big occasion by 2-1 as Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo scored goals to win the match, while a lone goal came from Randal Kolo Muani in the starting minutes of the game.

According to BBC, Olivier Giroud said, "This will be my last competition with Les Bleus. I'm going to miss it a lot. We need to make way for the youngsters. You also have to be careful not to have one season too many. You have to find the right balance."

Giroud made his debut for France in 2011 against Belgium in a friendly international match, which took place in the United States. In 2012, he scored his first goal for France against Belgium and France won the match by 2-1. In 2012, for the first time, Oliver Giroud represented France in UEFA Euro 2012 which was his first major tournament.

So far, Olivier Giroud has represented France 131 times and has been a key player in the team. In 131 appearances for France, Oliver Giroud scored 57 goals and is the top goal scorer for the team, surpassing the legendary striker Thierry Henry, who has 51 goals. Third place is held by rising star Kylian Mbappe, who has scored 48 goals from 84 and aims to be the top goal scorer for his nation. He was a key player for France during the 2018 FIFA World Cup as France went on to win the FIFA World Cup by defeating Croatia in the final.

Won many trophies in club career

However, Olivier Giroud was not in the starting line-up for yesterday’s semi-final clash against Spain. Keeping in mind his age, Didier Deschamps used him as a third striking option for the team. Meanwhile, he has left AC Milan and has agreed to join Los Angeles FC in the Major Soccer League after the Euro 2024 ends. In his club career, Oliver Giroud has scored 285 goals and has won many trophies with different clubs in Europe.
