The Friedkin Group, the Texas-based owners of Italian club AS Roma, has emerged as the clear favourite to purchase Everton. Dan Friedkin, 59, the company's chairman and CEO, is going to decide whether to buy existing owner Farhad Moshiri's 94% ownership in the club.

The decision regarding whether or not to close the purchase is likely within the next day or two.  The Premier League club is up for sale, with owner Farhad Moshiri looking to quit. With 777 Partners' proposal for acquiring the club passed away, prospective buyers are rising. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Roma owner, Dan Friedkin, is interested in purchasing the club. Dan Friedkin spoke a while back about the ownership of football clubs in this generation.

He said, “Synergies, information sharing, scouting. Being able to negotiate with sponsors on multiple markets, some of which are unattractive at certain levels. And then the trading of players, even if today with limitations, and their valorisation. At Red Bull they are masters: in five years 19 players have moved from Salzburg to Leipzig, two in reverse. You always need a dominant club.”

Sartori continued by saying that, “Two clubs are almost equivalent in terms of history, perception, exposure of the brand. And compared to other situations there is a higher risk of playing in the same European competition.”

On Friedkin being interested in Everton, he said: “Maybe to enter the English Premier League, but there are the big six there and competing with them is really tough. The stadium is certainly very attractive.”

Everton set eyes on Portuguese superstar as first signing

Everton will be concerned about Florentino Luis' fitness ahead of a possible summer deal. According to sources, the 24-year-old's involvement in games for Benfica, since he rarely plays the entire 90 minutes, may raise some red lights, and the club should thoroughly scout him before proceeding with the transaction.

This follows after Correio da Manha claimed on May 31 that the Toffees had offered £25.5 million to the Portuguese midfielder. Luis might be an excellent acquisition for the Toffees because of his defensive abilities and ability to bring stability to the midfield.
