Mason Greenwood is prepared to give up on England and make an effort to play for Jamaica in the future. According to The Sun, in order for Greenwood to carry on with his career alongside the Reggae Boyz, the Jamaican Football Federation has requested that his registration be transferred to the Football Association. The proposal has reportedly been approved by the English regulatory body, and the procedure has started.

Greenwood was ordered home from the training center soon after winning one cap for England versus Iceland in 2020 because to breaking COVID quarantine regulations by inviting ladies back to his hotel. He hasn't been selected since, and many people thought that his arrest on suspicion of several offenses, including rape, had ended his international career. His Manchester United stint ended, but the allegations were withdrawn.

Since the allegations were dropped, Jamaica has maintained contact with Greenwood, who at first turned down their advances in the hopes of being called up to the England national team. On the other hand, the striker may have been affected by the news that Steve McClaren, a former United assistant, was named the nation's new manager. In an attempt to make a comeback to the international scene, Greenwood, who is at present playing for Marseille in France, will need to keep scoring goals.

“Would be a big distraction for the team” : Gareth Southgate

When questioned about the possibility of calling up Mason Greenwood, Gareth Southgate stated that doing so would limit his team's efforts for UEFA Euro 2024.

He said, “Well, for me, I don’t think it’s something for pre-Euros. I think allowing him to get his career going again abroad appears to have been a good move but I have to say I have not tracked it closely.”

The former England manager said, “I think at this moment in time that would be a big distraction for the team and let’s see where that leads next season. I would need to know more details about the whole thing before it was an option.”
