Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha has been on Manchester United's radar for a while, according to reports. As previously reported by CaughtOffside, the Red Devils considered Cunha's circumstances at Wolves previously this season before deciding to recruit Joshua Zirkzee.
According to a TBR Football article, Tottenham Hotspur is also listed as an admirer of the Brazil international, and it appears that Manchester Utd is once again interested in him. It may not be feasible for United to complete this probable move this winter, though, since the article also claims that Wolves manager Gary O'Neil has been convinced about keeping the team's best players in the forthcoming January transfer window.
In Wolves' 4-1 victory against Fulham on Saturday, the former Atletico Madrid player was instrumental. At Craven Cottage, he scored two fantastic goals, the latter of which was a spectacular first-time effort from outside the area into the top corner. On that particular day, Cunha set up his Brazilian teammate Joao Gomes, demonstrating his ability to set up teammates.
Given how poorly Zirkzee has performed since joining United at Old Trafford during the summer, it makes natural that the team may be considering Cunha once more. After Erik ten Hag's disastrous start to the season, Ruben Amorim just took over as manager of Manchester United, and it is likely that he will want to bring about some adjustments to the team he inherited.
Joshua Zirkzee set to be offloaded out of Manchester United?
Although Zirkzee initially appeared to be an exceptional prospect at Bologna, his on-field performances have been incredibly disappointing, making him appear to be a particular weak link. It's unclear if Amorim will believe he can assist Zirkzee get better or if he'll determine that player has to be moved out and replaced right away. If it's the latter, Manchester United probably wouldn't do much worse than sign Matheus Cunha, who keeps getting better at Molineux.
While Zirkzee appears to have struggled with the transition from Italian to English football, the 25-year-old has demonstrated his abilities in the English Premier League and will undoubtedly benefit from having more talented teammates around him.
