Liverpool fail to agree contract terms with superstar during negotiations

Liverpool have a big problem at their hands and their biggest issue this season is that their star players might not renew their existing contracts, which expire in June.

With negotiations apparently stalled with their superstar full-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the current season, Liverpool may find themselves in a perilous position. The Sun said that the team is seeking the extension of the contracts for three important players: Virgil van Dijk, Mohammed Salah, and Alexander-Arnold.

According to the report, even though the right-back is in the peak of his football career, the club is unwilling to provide him a deal that would make him the highest-paid player at the club, surpassing Salah and van Dijk.

Given that van Dijk (33) and Salah (32) are past their best years, it might make sense to retain Alexander-Arnold. Given that they are approaching the halfway point of the season, it is said that giving the right-back the most significant contract could cause friction within the team.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have both expressed interest in the star England right-back, but an agreement has not yet been reached despite the Merseyside club's several proposals, which represent an improvement above his current £180,000-per-week contract. Alexander-Arnold has reportedly not requested to match van Djik and Salah's salaries, although he might end up making significantly more money at PSG or Real Madrid.

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid in 2025?

When a star player's contract is about to expire, the La Liga powerhouses have been renowned to capitalize on it by offering high salaries and signing bonuses, which may present a better financial option for the player. The 26-year-old is seen to be the least likely to extend his contract with his present team and has been a top target for the reigning Champions League winners.

Given that the three main players have been integral to Liverpool's ascent to the top of the English Premier League, the team will undoubtedly suffer if one of them departs. The team now leads the standings with 25 points after 10 games, following the departure of Jurgen Klopp and the appointment of Arne Slot as manager.
