Chelsea have announced Enzo Maresca as their new head coach. The Italian manager led Leicester City from the EFL Championship to the Premier League after they topped the EFL Championship group stage. They sacked Mauricio Pochettino despite picking up the pace towards the end of the season finishing 6th in the table and qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League. The new coach will bring up his own assistants and new support staff.

The new Blues coach has an eight-man backroom staff at Chelsea including an ex-Blues goalkeeper as his second 2 and a leading set-piece coach. He picked a set of best-in-class coaches that he wanted with him at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming season. The management is closing as there have been positive talks between all the support staff and the Blues. Willy Caballero, the former Argentine goalkeeper will be one of the assistant coaches for the 2024/25 season.

Danny Walker, who previously worked at Manchester City's academy, is a specialist in dealing with individual players, is known for his methodical approach, and is a valuable asset to Maresca's attacking work. Other names that Maresca may bring to Chelsea are fitness coach Marcos Alvarez, goalkeeping coach Michele de Bernardin, and analyst Javier Molina Caballero.

Will Maresca live up to the hype?

Chelsea's new Development Coach, Roberto Vitiello, will help the young players by giving them a first-team taste. Tyrique George, Kiano Dyer, Josh Acheampong, and Ishe Samuels-Smith are expected to join them on their pre-season tour of the United States in July and August. With the Blues returning to the European competition they are securing their backroom well, to perform at their best level in the top-tier league and they would also love to finish at the top 4 in the EPL for the upcoming season.

Maresca at such a young age has been one of the finest young managers but it is surprising to see him get such a high-profile position early in his managerial career. He has a five-year deal and it is now done on a contract valid until June 2029. The clause also includes a year of extension till 2030.
