Lautaro Martinez set to extend contract with Inter Milan despite leaving rumours

Star striker and club captain Lautaro Martinez has been a standout performer for the side since he joined the Italian club. He has twice won the Serie A title with Inter and reached a UCL final as well.

Inter Milan are already the champions of the Serie A 2023/24 season. Simone Inzaghi's side already won the league with five matches to spare after they defeated their arch-rivals AC Milan in match 31. The Nerazzurri after winning the league won their 20th title and surpassed their rivals. The side were also good in the UEFA Champions League but where knocked out of the quarter-finals by Atletico Madrid.

They have been one of the most dominant side in the past few years as they qualified in the 2022/23 UCL final losing to Manchester City. Star striker and club captain Lautaro Martinez has been a standout performer for the side since he joined the Italian club. He has twice won the Serie A title with Inter and reached a UCL final as well. There were rumours of him leaving the club but their vice president Javier Zanetti have confirmed that the Argentine striker will stay in Italy and will wear the arm band as well. 

Martinez have scored 23 goals in the current season in 31 games across all formats for the side. He was also a crucial part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad of Argentina that won the trophy in Qatar. El Toro has appeared in 280 games for the side and has found the net 128 times. 

He will be our captain also next season: Javier Zanetti 

For the upcoming season, he will be a crucial member upfront and will lead the attack. He has a contract till 2026 and wants to extend it further.  Zanetti said DAZN, "He will be our captain also next season, for sure. He's extending the contract, he's staying." A few days back the 26-year-old striker also gave his saying on extending his contract. 

He said, "We’ve had an extraordinary journey. There are players with strong values. It’s not easy to reach a [Champions League] final, but we played great games and we got there [last season]." Martinez will be a part of the Argentina squad for the Copa America that is scheduled to start on the 21st of June, as the La Albiceleste will look to defend their trophy.
