Keylor Navas has been one of the most underrated goalkeepers of this generation. The former Real Madrid keeper was a crucial member of the three-peat UEFA Champions League win for the club. However, he did not get the same recognition he was supposed to get from the fans and the Spanish club as well. He was recently part of the Paris Saint-Germain side that lost the UCL semi-final against Borussia Dortmund, he was not in the playing XI and has been a second choice keeper for the side.

The Costa Rican international has decided to hang up his boots right ahead of the Copa America 2024. He might have been named in the national side for the quadrennial tournament. However, he decided not to take part in the upcoming tournament. The 37-year-old footballer has 114 caps for the national side as he remains the 6th footballer with the most caps for the North American side.

He was an instrumental player for the side and helped the team qualify for three consecutive World Cups, which is the longest such run in the nation’s history. The shot-stopper made his last appearance for his country in a friendly against Argentina in March, in which the side lost 3-1 to the reigning world champions.

Navas; an underrated gem of this generation

He has appeared in 447 games for the clubs he has been a part of. He was on loan to Nottingham Forest in the 2022 edition before again returning to PSG where he only got two games for the club. His contract also expires in June and he might leave the club as a free agent and join MLS or Saudi clubs.

The goalkeeper said in a video posted on social media, "This chapter of my life is coming to an end, I leave with my heart full of gratitude and my eyes looking forward, always carrying the name of our beloved Costa Rica. It's a bittersweet feeling, difficult to accept, this stage has come to an end. It's not goodbye, it's see you later because I know our paths will continue to cross. Thank you, Costa Rica, see you later, pura vida."
