Joelinton signs new contract with Newcastle United despite Bayern Munich interest

The previous contract which was set to expire in the next summer window, and several clubs were interested in signing him. With Bayern Munich was the favourites of getting him next season.

Newcastle United have been performing brilliantly since their Saudi Arabian takeover of the club. The Magpies qualified for the UEFA Champions League in the ongoing season and were drawn in the group of death against Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund. They failed to qualify for the knockout stages as they finished last in the group with one win and two draws. But their performance from the last season was excellent as they finished in the top 4 in the English Premier League (EPL). 

Ahead of the next season, the club has extended the contract of their star midfielder Joelinton, as the Brazilian has signed a new four-year contract with the club. The previous contract which was set to expire in the next summer window, and several clubs were interested in signing him. Bayern Munich was the favourites of getting him next season, but the 27-year-old midfielder had other plans and he stayed with the club till 2028. 

The Brazilian midfielder is currently suffering from a groin injury he sustained in January and the player might miss the remainder of the season for the very same reason. He has played 23 games across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists. He also got a senior national team call during the international break, at the start of his career with the club he did not have the best time at St. James Park but then he managed to get on with the struggles and became a crucial member. 

Joelinton happy after extending contract with Newcastle

After signing the contract Joelinton feels happy and great and more importantly his family is happy with his extension. He further said, "I've learnt a lot and grown a lot, and for me to come here to Newcastle was the best decision of my career. I love playing for the club. I love the club, I love the fans. We had a lot of discussions and I always wanted to be here. I'm glad to continue and I hope to have success in the years to come."

Eddie Howe the head coach for the side was also happy after the central midfielder extended his contract and he believed that this was the club's biggest priority to off the pitch.
