France plays Argentina as teams learn fate about their Paris Olympic 2024 quarter-finals

The first round of the football competition at the Men’s Olympics 2024 has concluded. 16 teams remain as the nations look to battle it out on the field to have their names on the medal tally. All the top nations have qualified for the knockout stages of the competition. 

After defeating New Zealand 3-0 in the men's football tournament, Team France is enjoying their home games in the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. Thierry Henry's team broke the scoreless draw in the first half of the match thanks to a goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta, and they went on to win Group A. Arnaud Kalimuendo and Desire Doue both scored goals to ensure an easy victory against the Kiwis and all three points.

The French have not advanced past this point in the tournament since Atlanta 1996, which is the initial time they have made it this far. They defeated the United States 3-0 to start their Paris campaign, and then they barely defeated Guinea thanks to a late goal from Kiliann Sildillia.

After defeating New Zealand to win Group A and advance to the last eight in the men's football competition at the Olympics, France will take on Argentina in the quarterfinals. After defeating Guinea 3-0, the USA and France advanced from Group A upon goal differential; they finished ahead of New Zealand due to their final-day performance.

What happened in the other Paris Olympic 2024 games?

Earlier on Tuesday, Argentina defeated Ukraine 2-0 in Group B thanks to a spectacular goal from Thiago Almada. After defeating Iraq 3-0, Morocco finished equal on points as well as goal differential with Argentina, but they had defeated the South American team in their initial match. As a result, they won Group B.

In other matches, Spain was shocked to lose 2-1 to Egypt and ended up finishing second in Group C, with the other team overtaking them to take first place.
