Former Valencia midfielder Jose Castillejo passes away in flash floods

Numerous individuals, including football player Jose Castillejo, have died as a result of flash floods in Spain, with Valencia being particularly heavily struck by the natural calamity. Valencia has honored Jose Castillejo, a 28-year-old former player who died when flash floods struck the city.

Valencia sent out a statement saying, " Valencia CF mourn the passing of José Castillejo, casualty of the flash floodings. José Castillejo came up through the [club's] youth system up to U18 level and played for others teams in the region."

Eldense, one of his other former clubs, also posted on social media mourning his death. The statement said, "Terrible news coming from the catastrophic DANA. CD Eldense deeply regrets the death at the age of 28 of José Castillejo, former blue-and-red player in the 2015/2016 season. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace."

Midfielder Castillejo attended Valencia's academy and represented the team till the Under-19 level. After that, he spent time with Villamarxant, Eldense, Bunol, Roda, Recambios Colon, and Torre Levante.

Videos of Valencia CF players contributing to the city's recovery efforts have also been posted. Inside the club's Mestalla Stadium, where locals have gathered since the city was devastated by floods, Maximiliano Caufriez, Jesus Vazquez, and Thierry Rendall were spotted assisting with the food collection.

Formula E event postponed due to flash floods

It has been said that the flash flooding is the worst natural calamity to hit Spain in a century. As of this writing, the death toll has increased to at least 158, and there are concerns that it may grow even higher. In the Copa del Rey, Valencia was scheduled to play Paria Escuela. However, due to the devastating effects of the floods, that event was postponed.

Additionally, a Formula E event that was supposed to happen in Valencia has been postponed. The statement said, "We have all been monitoring the tragic situation in Valencia, where flash floods have devastated the region and claimed many lives. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by these terrible events and we at Formula E are looking at how we can practically support the region during this awful time.”
